The Power of YaDig: The BurgerFuel Story

We’ve been preaching for years now about how YaDig gives customers an easy and safe outlet to voice their opinions on the businesses they spend their time and money at. The best part about this is that more often than not, the businesses DO listen and respond too! Recently we had an incredible example of how writing on YaDig can change things in a big way. A YaDiger wrote an honest, real review for a UAE hamburger chain that many of you know, Burger Fuel. The review was for the most part quite positive due in part to the fact that they serve up what can easily be argued as the best (quick) burgers in the city. The one part of the review that stuck out was the mention that they were charging extra for mustard!

As odd as this may seem, businesses make these kind of mistakes all the time in this region and without honest feedback from clients on an open forum like YaDig we wonder how long this sour-taste-in-your-mouth causing goof would persist. Chances are hundreds of people were put off by this extra charge and complained to friends and colleagues before one person was kind enough to take the time to give their feedback directly to the business.

So the amazing part of this story is when the business decided to take advantage of this FREE user feedback. Burger Fuel noticed the string of comments from other users on YaDig about the condiment charging and took the matter into their own hands which we love to see. Where consumers enjoy the power to big up or knock down a business, merchants also have lots of YaDig tools at their disposal to counter negativity, respond to customer feedback, or simply to ‘come clean.’ What did Burger Fuel do? They completely eradicated the extra charge UAE-wide just from the YaDig review and thanked the customer for the help! Now that is putting power in your hands isn’t it? Don’t like something? Review it, see what happens!

What YaDig Means to the Middle East

With its launch in 2010, YaDig introduced the concept of a social review website in the Middle East. Previously, the region had lacked an online utility that allowed its people to find great places to go, talk about business establishments, voice personal opinions, and keep in touch with friends, all from one platform. YaDig has been trying to fix that problem and we feel we’re making strides these days as traffic hits all time highs. Do you dig us?

In less than two years, YaDig’s Middle East user base has exploded from a few hundred to tens of thousands today, and the numbers are only increasing. Today actually we hit the 300,000 pageview per month mark and have grown over 25% since last month. The love YaDig has received so far from the UAE community (50% of our traffic right now) has been reciprocated with continuous enrichment in the site’s database for this region; thousands of new places in different categories are added every week for different Middle Eastern locations so the locals get more out of their favorite site. We have lots more cool stuff coming too so keep YaDiging!

More Places for More Users

YaDig started off with just five categories that included hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, night clubs and bars. But knowing the initial five categories covered only a fraction of places that people go in their lives, the guys/girls introduced many new categories later that encompassed virtually all possible venues a person is expected to visit in his or her lifetime.

The inclusion of such important categories as automotive services, beauty & spa, education, home services, medical & health, and sports & leisure among others has made YaDig.com an even cooler tool that people can use all the time in their everyday lives. Today YaDig stands proud as the Middle East’s easiest place to find the info you need and even with a sprinkle of user opinions too!

A Better Service for Better Decisions

YaDig was made with just one goal in mind: to help people make informed choices and land the right places to have awesome times at. People extensively use YaDig’s location based business review service to find the right place to go to have a certain need met. Looking for good Italian food nearby? Browse YaDig listing from wherever you are and get customized local results in an instant. Still not sure? Use ‘Ask Advice’ to ask the locals about what’s the best place for you to go.

That’s the simple and effective way YaDig is helping the people in the UAE, Egypt, Lebanon and around the region make informed choices and save themselves the time, trouble, and disappointment of landing another wrong place. But that’s not the end of it. Engineers at YaDig labs are continuously working to innovate new ways of making the site more useful for the end user, so let’s just say that calling the Middle East chapter of YaDig’s success story only a positive beginning would be no exaggeration.

What YaDig Envisions

From day one the YaDig team was convinced of the potential of a Middle East centric social review service. The growth YaDig saw in the region in just a matter of months made them think about taking more serious steps towards optimizing the untapped online potential of such important countries of the region as the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait and more.

Today the above mentioned locations grace YaDig’s priority list and the focus is paying off in the shape of more users and increased activity. YaDig’s dedicated data miners for the Middle East region are updating the site’s database incessantly to make it a better service for the local users. More interestingly, YaDig is getting in touch with the local businesses to offer special discounts and deals on the site for the local YaDig users to benefit from. This proposition – that’s already started to take shape – is all set to evolve into an ecosystem that not only helps people make informed choices, but also rewards them for playing their part in its growth.

What (Not) To Do When Customers Vent

YaDig is all about people finding what and where, the first time around. Be it the best beach bar in Dubai (Barasti if you ask us), the most mouthwateringly home-cooked Iranian food in Dubai (Special Ostadi of course), or even the tastiest Koshari in Cairo (Koshary Tahrir duh!). What guides our users to your business venue is other people’s rave reviews about it. So basically its people, with their honest reviews for your business, that constitute the true essence of YaDig.com. We facilitate the word of mouth you desire.

It’s not just a business page that you get when you sign up your business with us; instead, what you get is a robust platform linking your brand/product/service to tens of thousands of potential customers in your area(s). Plus, as people also socialize on YaDig.com, they follow your business, talk about it with their friends, and recommend it to thousands of likeminded people with a single positive review. That’s the power of people in 2012!

Having said this, with YaDig being the 100% ‘democratic’ community that it is, you may also find the occaisonal disgruntled customer venting out their issue(s) with your business via a review. Negative reviews may sting you as the business owner at first, but they can turn out to be the most valuable asset you get from us, as you receive amazingly detailed and honest feedback on your business’ performance, for free!

Now lashing out at the negative reviewer may be the easy road to take, but could have irreparable damages. Never respond with anything but kind tones, and apologetic behavior. Here are some more precious tips from our YaDig Experts on how not losing your cool will help your brand glow brighter not only on YaDig, but across the region.

YaDig’s New Response Tool
With YaDig’s newest version enabling people (and you) to comment on reviews, you can get back to your customers to appreciate their rave reviews, as well as to get to the root of their dissatisfaction if needed. Say a customer has written a glaring review about you, why not leave a grateful remark via comment on their review? Likewise, leaving an apologetic comment for an upset client, asking the customer the cause of dissatisfaction and compensating accordingly will most likely win the person back over, not to mention the thousands of people that will read the review.

Use Team Members
Since using YaDig is all about ROTI (Return On Time Investment), the more time you put into communicating with your audience, the better your footfall and brand awareness will be. We suggest you treat your business’ profile page like a full time job in and of itself by making it a team effort. Team Members are the users you authorize to manage your business page. Just make sure everyone has a single solitary voice and objective.

Learn, and Implement Valued Feedback
Look at the big picture. Businesses in the Middle East regularly conduct costly surveys to get customer feedback to better know how they can improve. With YaDig, you get live user reviews and state of the art business tools which enable you keep full track of real time customer feedback. You can also view your custom trends reports, based completely on your most recent business statistics, made available with a click in your YaDig business dashboard.

When combined, live user reviews, user comments on reviews, and YaDig’s bespoke business tools provide you with so thorough and unambiguous a user feedback that no survey can ever achieve. Clever businesses use these live user stats to resolve customer issues as soon as they arise and give people more of what they want.

Nothing Working? Flagging Might!
If you think a review is violating YaDig’s terms of service, you can flag it for evaluation by YaDig user support team. We’ll look into the ways the flagged review may be in violation of our site terms and take it down if so found. Although we encourage businesses to accept negative reviews as a matter-of-fact part of their customers’ experience, we allow you to flag a trashing review and point our attention to it.

Put Your Best Foot Forward
One thing for you to always keep in mind as a business owner is to “treat your customers as if they are business reporters,” as a recent Forbes article says. If you prefer long-term reputation to short-term profit, as do all successful businesses, the best way to achieve it is through great customer service. In today’s internet age where information spreads in a blink, days of tooting your own horn via conventional marketing may be over – Customer Service is the new marketing.

Better User Experience with YaDig’s New Build

Hello world! A whole new YaDig is here to deliver you the best user experience yet. Now finding the right restaurant, hotel, coffee shop, bar, nightclub or anything else near you is not only easier, but is more fun too. Everything on YaDig.com – from design to features and functionalities – has been touched up, and in some cases overhauled, to deliver you a better user experience. The site now has got more visually appealing, simpler to use, and neater than before.

You valued feedback helped us make all the right changes to the site and equip it with the right tools to make it a great reviewing and networking website for you. The site with the new build lets you explore your city and surroundings better than the locals in an easy and intuitive fashion.

Below is a brief rundown of what major upgrades YaDig.com has gone through in the new build.

Design Revamp – Neater is Better

We have made major changes to YaDig’s design across the board. Whether it’s the homepage, listings page, business page or user/business dashboards, every single part of the site has undergone the design overhaul. The resultant look of the site has emerged neat, clutter-free and easy on the eye. As the redesign goes hand in hand with new feature/functionality upgrades, YaDig has just gotten more user-friendly and utilitarian than before.

Notifications – Stay In The Know

Real time notifications panel at the top right position of the site is a new great addition to the site. The panel is visible after you sign in to your YaDig account (Don’t have an account? Register FREE now!). The notifications panel keeps you up-to-date about the latest activities happening on the site. These updates may include all Dig Buddy activities (new place added, new review posted, new place followed, attending an event, availing a deal etc.), and user activities such as if someone likes your review, comments on it, or gives you a compliment etc.

Richer Dashboard – City News & Friends Updates

Your new User Dashboard on YaDig.com comes loaded with more useful content such as City News and Friends Updates, in addition to Following (for the places you’re following) and My Events (for events you’re attending). City News comprise most activity updates on places in your city, such as latest reviews on hottest places in your city, as well as newest deals and events announced by businesses establishments operating in your city. Friends Updates comprise most of your friends’ activities on YaDig.com such as new review posted, new place added, new advice asked etc.

Get Advice – Let the Locals Come to the Rescue

Get Advice, our brand new feature, allows users to ask the locals for their advice on a new city/area. For instance, if you’re in a new city or area and looking for a particular place to stay, eat out, have fun, study, stay fit, or do anything else, use Get Advice to ask the locals of that city/area to seek their informed advice about it. Your question will appear in the City News section of users of the city you need advice on. Advice from the locals will surely lead you to the right venue at the right time with ease.

Reviews – Say More with a Picture

Now you can couple your review with a photo to make it more powerful. When you’re saying things like the food at the restaurant is delicious, the nightclub is overcrowded, or the hotel’s room service is pathetic, add a photo with your review to give readers a clearer picture so they make wiser choices. Besides, it’s also fun to write a visual review and it’s good to look at as well.

Deals & Events – by Your Favourite Businesses

Finally, Deals & Events from the businesses you’re following are here. You get updates for all new deals & events posted by your favorite businesses on the site which you can browse straight from your YaDig Dashboard. YaDig offers special deals for its users in collaboration with partnered business establishments. These deals may entitle you to special discounts and offers at designated business outlets, or any other benefit/offer that the deal may dictate.

Do More – Comments, Tagging & Compliments

Now users can write comments on reviews, asked advice, as well as on deals & events. You can agree, disagree or endorse the review, or simply correct the reviewer in the comments. You can reply to the asked advice via comments. And you can say what you think about certain deal or event via comments.

You can also tag user reviews as funny, helpful or informative.

What’s more interesting is you can compliment a user profile with a Thank You, Good Writer, You’re Cool etc.

Top-9 Iftar Tents in Dubai

Talking of Ramadan attractions, there’s hardly anything more significant and looked forward to than iftar itself. And when it’s in a city as glittering and bustling as Dubai, the appeal obviously multiplies to gigantic proportions. It’s a sheer amazement how the arrival of Ramadan transforms the whole outlook of Dubai, making the city appear as a stronghold of Islamic traditions in the region and turning to the guests its new and oft veiled facet.

As the dusk draws nearer, both fasting and non-fasting Muslims and non-Muslims gravitate to hundreds of venues in the city to enjoy irresistible iftar buffet deals. As celebrated Iftar Buffets replace the daily brunches and lunches, almost all cafés and restaurants in Dubai serve special iftar buffets featuring the most toothsome of exclusive Ramadan dishes, as well as a huge variety of regional and international cuisine.

The most unique feature of Dubai’s Ramadan celebrations scene however remains the Ramadan-only Iftar Tents, a temporary arrangement where Iftar Buffet Deals are served under big and beautiful marquees specially set up for the occasion. Although most of Dubai’s food outlets serve iftar buffets, none can offer the unique feeling of togetherness and religious spirit as do the popular Iftar Tents.

Keeping in view the growing popularity of Iftar Tents in Dubai, we’re listing here some cool venues for Iftar Tents this Ramadan. If you’re in Dubai, do pay a visit to these iftar tents and let us hear about your experience via comments on this blog or live reviews on YaDig.com.

Claim Your Business Today on YaDig.com

Yesterday we added a new ‘Claim This Place’ functionality on YaDig.com. The feature enables business owners to claim their business page that’s already present on the site, created either by us or any of our users.

Since virtually all YaDig users are able to add places and create as many business pages as they desire, business/venue owners/officials may find their business already listed on YaDig.com by others. So it was to cope with this problem and to enable owners/officials of the places to claim their business page on the site that we came up with the idea of adding new ‘Claim This Place’ functionality.

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to how you can claim your business on YaDig.com using the new ‘Claim This Place’ functionality.

HOW ‘CLAIM THIS PLACE’ WORKS

Step-1:

First of all, go to the business page that you want to claim.

Step-2:

Click on the green ‘Claim This Place Today’ button now present at the top right location of the page.

Step-3:

Fill up the simple form and click on the ‘Claim This Place’ button at the bottom of the form.

As soon as you click on the ‘Claim This Place’ button, your claim request is sent to YaDig Team for review. After thorough review and verification, our team will grant you access to the business page from where you can manage your business subscription, events, deals and more. A YaDig verification stamp replaces the ‘Claim This Place’ button on the business page as soon as our team grants you access to the claimed page.
